Takita - Tan is a unique musical project that brings together the profound rhythmic heritage of Indian classical music with the rich melodic traditions of Anatolia and beyond. The name itself embodies the essence of the collaboration:

  • Takita – the bols of the tabla, syllables that give life to rhythm.

  • Tan – melody, resonance, and expression.

In this project, Saradindu Adhikary (India) and Emre Gultekin (Turkey/Belgium) weave an intricate musical conversation where percussive cycles meet flowing melodic improvisations. The duo creates a bridge between two ancient traditions, allowing audiences to experience music as a living dialogue across cultures.

  • A Turkish-Belgian musician and master of the tanbur, the long-necked lute central to Anatolian and Ottoman traditions.

  • He carries forward the lineage of his father, the renowned bard Lütfü Gültekin, while shaping his own path through contemporary and cross-cultural projects.

  • Emre is recognized for his soulful interpretations, subtle improvisations, and projects that connect Turkish music with other world traditions.

Saradindu Adhikary

  • A highly accomplished tabla player, trained in the traditions of North Indian classical music.

  • Known for his mastery of rhythmic cycles (tala) and ability to cross boundaries by collaborating with world music artists.

  • Has performed extensively in India and abroad, offering tabla both as a solo instrument and in dialogue with other musical forms.

Concept & Artistic Vision

  • The duo explores rhythmic cycles of tabla and the modal landscapes (makams) of the tanbur.

  • Improvisation (riyaz and taksim) is at the heart of their performance, where pre-composed material serves as a framework for spontaneous musical creation.

  • The project reflects dialogue, not fusion – each tradition remains true to itself, yet opens to the other, resulting in a fresh and organic sound.

  • Themes of migration, interconnectedness, and shared human expression resonate throughout their performances.

Concert length: 60–90 minutes.
